Contagious Canine Virus on the Rise in Des Moines

(Des Moines, IA) -- A spike in parvovirus cases has been reported in Des Moines, according to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

The highly contagious virus affects mostly puppies and unvaccinated dogs, spreading through contact with infected animals or contaminated surfaces. Symptoms include vomiting, bloody diarrhea, and lethargy. The ARL urges owners to vaccinate pets and seek veterinary care if symptoms appear. Dog owners are also advised to avoid public spaces and disinfect bowls, bedding, and toys regularly.
