(Des Moines, IA) -- The City of Des Moines will not conduct mosquito spraying or monitoring this summer due to budget constraints.

Officials confirmed that this marks the first time in over 25 years that the city will not send out spray trucks or mosquito traps. Earlier this week, the city did carry out a one-time aerial larvicide treatment targeting mosquito larvae in select wet areas, however that is the only thing the city will do. Residents are encouraged to take personal precautions, including removing standing water, maintaining lawns, and using insect repellent.
