(Des Moines, IA) -- A Des Moines man is convicted of killing his girlfriend.
A jury in Polk County convicted 61 year-old Derrick Earnest of killing his girlfriend, 49 year-old Holly Snowgren. Investigators say Earnest assaulted Snowgren on April 19th of last year and later drove her to the hospital, where she died of her injuries the following morning. Earnest was convicted of first degree murder on Friday and faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
His sentencing is scheduled for July 23rd.
