Nine Charged in Multi-State ATM Jackpotting Conspiracy

(OMAHA, NE) -- Nine Venezuelan nationals are facing federal charges in a multi-state cybercrime scheme involving ATM “jackpotting,” according to U.S. Attorney Lesley Woods.

Prosecutors say the suspects used a hacking technique that forces ATMs to dispense cash without accessing any bank accounts. The crimes occurred between January and May across six states, including Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, Iowa, Oregon, and Washington.

FBI Omaha led the investigation alongside several local agencies, including the North Platte Police Department, Grand Island Police, and Nebraska State Patrol.

The defendants are charged with attempted bank burglary and conspiracy to access protected computers. If convicted, each could face up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000.
