(Des Moines, IA) -- No severe weather is expected in Central Iowa this week.
“Chances for severe weather this week are low just because it’s so cool out there, but we definitely could have some thunderstorm activity, especially once we get into Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday,” said Meteorologist Alexis Jimenez.
Severe weather, including tornadoes, is more likely as temperatures warm up. Jimenez says that while severe weather isn't expected this week, the chances of bad weather will increase as we move into June.
“As we get into the summer months, entering June, lightning is still a dangerous weather phenomenon. So if there is thunderstorm potential and you have outdoor plans, have someplace to go inside if you hear thunder near you,” said Jimenez.
She adds that the weather will remain cool with a few showers through the week until Friday, when temperatures are expected to rise into the 80s.
