Nebraska Literacy Program Expands Access to Books for Young Children

(LINCOLN, NE) -- A statewide literacy initiative has placed more than 885,000 books into the hands of Nebraska children since its 2023 launch.

The Nebraska Growing Readers Program, supported by a $2 million investment from the Nebraska Department of Education, aims to boost early literacy among children ages 3 to 5. A first-year evaluation by the Nebraska Children’s Research Team and the Munroe-Meyer Institute found that even 15 minutes of daily reading can significantly improve language development.

Officials say the program has reached nearly 38,000 children across both urban and rural communities. More information is available at the Nebraska Department of Education’s website.
