(Clive, IA) -- A customer found one pound of marijuana at Where Ya Bin, Clive's newest resale store.

"This customer was in the store, and opened up a postal box to see what was in it, and it turned out to have this pound of marijuana in it. No markings on the box of where it came from or where it was supposed to be delivered to, all of that had been removed," said Clive Police Chief Mark Rehberg.

Where Ya Bin is a resale store that purchases undeliverable mail and overstocked items, reselling them at discounted prices. The store receives hundreds of unopened packages, many of which are sold to customers as-is.

Police confirm that the customer found the package at the store while shopping on Friday, May 23.

Drugs are often shipped through the mail, and police say they will most likely not be able to determine where the marijuana came from.

“The best we might be able to determine is the date the package arrived at Where Ya Bin,” Rehberg said. “There were no markings at all—no shipping, delivery, or tracking information.”

The store has policies in place requiring customers to open packages at a designated station in front of employees. It’s unclear whether those procedures were followed in this instance.

Rehberg emphasized that this appears to be an isolated incident.

"It's not something you hear of every day, but stranger things have happened. I can't say that it's a trend or anything like that, it's one of those that just kind of slipped through the cracks," said Chief Rehberg.
