Iowan Who Died On D-Day Will Be Buried On 81st Anniversary

(Iowa) -- A U.S. Army Private from Iowa who died on D-Day will be laid to rest this week, 81 years later.

Private James L. Harrington of Appanoose County was on a vessel heading toward Omaha Beach on D-Day and was one of four people later found deceased on the sunken craft. He was buried as “Unknown” at the Normandy American Cemetery and listed as Missing in Action until his remains were identified. He will be laid to rest during a ceremony in Cincinnati, Iowa, on June 6.
