(Washington, DC) -- An Illinois congressional leader says Department Of Defense plans to merge the Army Sustainment, and Joint Munitions commands on the Rock Island Arsenal are more about cutting the federal workforce than strengthening the army.
House Representative Eric Sorensen made the comments to Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll during a House Armed Services Committee hearing Thursday.
Driscoll says the Army hopes to realize efficiencies through the merger suggesting the current number of staff may be detrimental.
The planned merger of the Commands could result in up to 400 job losses on the Arsenal.
