(Des Moines, IA) -- A protest of federal immigration policies drew hundreds of people to downtown Des Moines on Tuesday night.
They gathered at Cowles Commons to stand in solidarity with demonstrators in Los Angeles, who are protesting ICE raids targeting undocumented immigrants.
President Trump sent hundreds of National Guard troops into downtown Los Angeles in response to the protests.
Governor Kim Reynolds commented on the protests in a Facebook post, saying, "As long as I'm Governor, Iowa will enforce immigration law and never become a sanctuary state. Peaceful demonstrations are welcome, but make no mistake: any unlawful behavior will be stopped immediately."
The rally in Des Moines was one of several protests taking place Tuesday across the nation, including in Chicago, Atlanta, and New York City.
