Woman Accused of Abusing Her Newborn Granted Pretrial Release

(Rockwell City, IA) -- A Rockwell City woman charged with abusing her newborn baby has been granted pretrial release.

Emma Swanson is accused of withholding food and medical treatment from her infant over several months in 2024 and of striking the child, resulting in a skull fracture. She has pleaded not guilty to charges of child endangerment and willful injury.

The Carroll County Jail confirmed to WHO Radio News that Swanson has been released from custody. Her trial is scheduled to begin on August 12, 2025.
