(Des Moines, IA) -- Polk County has activated its cooling centers and is offering free transportation to these locations via city buses through Monday morning.
Homeless shelters will also be available to provide relief during the extreme heat.
Residents are encouraged to check on friends, neighbors, and vulnerable populations, including the elderly, infants, and individuals with chronic illnesses.
High temperatures also pose serious risks to pets. Ensure they have access to shade, fresh water, and avoid walking them on hot pavement.
