(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Police have made an arrest in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident on Monday.
44-year-old Mario Campos was taken into custody on charges of homicide by vehicle-OWI and leaving the scene of an accident.
Campos is accused of hitting 53-year-old Andrew Verwers as he stood in the median at Hickman and Merle Hay Roads. Verwers was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Police say there is evidence that Campos was impaired at the time of the crash and left the scene. He's being held at the Polk County Jail.
