(West Des Moines, IA) -- Police are investigating the death of a child who was found unresponsive in a vehicle in West Des Moines.
"On July 2, at approximately 2:51 p.m., West Des Moines Police were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive 18-month-old child in a vehicle parked in a lot across the street from MercyOne," said Sergeant Dan Wade of the West Des Moines Police Department.
Authorities do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.
"It's still an open investigation, but all the evidence we have gathered so far indicates that this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to public safety," Wade said.
No charges have been filed at this time. Police continue to investigate.
Wade tells WHO Radio News that there is not much more information he can share about the investigation at this time.
