Maverik to Lay Off 100 Kum & Go Employees at Des Moines Office

(Des Moines, IA) -- Maverik, the Utah-based owner of the Kum & Go chain, will cut 100 jobs at the company’s downtown Des Moines office. The layoffs, confirmed in a letter to city officials and a state-required notice, begin this week and will continue into next April.

Sixty-three employees will remain, while eight will be offered relocation packages to Maverik’s Salt Lake City headquarters. The reductions follow Maverik’s 2023 acquisition of Kum & Go and its plan to rebrand all stores under the Maverik name.

Des Moines had an incentive agreement with the company tied to workforce size. With fewer employees, Maverik will receive a smaller payout from the city.
