(Des Moines, IA) -- Stores throughout the Des Moines Metro are hosting school supplies sales as families rush to get the last few items on their list.

A lot of families were getting the last of their supplies before school kicks off again on Monday. Stores were offering sales on pencils, notebooks, and even folders for as low as 50 cents each. While some stores I stopped at were still fully stocked, others looked a bit picked over. Even so, there were a lot of unique supplies for kids to get their hands on, including pop-it pencil cases and rulers, colorful water bottles, and a lot of character-themed supplies.

"Sometimes she (his mom) forgets that I'm thirteen, and then she will be like, 'Look at this,' and it will be some random dinosaur supply, and I'm like, 'No,'" said Arther, who was shopping with his mom Camilla.

In addition to notebooks and pencils, a common item on many students' lists is headphones and electronic accessories to support their learning. Every student I spoke to said their school provides them with some sort of electronic device, whether that be an iPad or a Chromebook.

"We are required to have headphones, and we have Chromebooks," said Jessica Phillips' daughter, who is entering second grade.
