(Des Moines, IA) -- A fatal shooting of a Tama man by a police officer is being legally justified by the Iowa Attorney General.

Law enforcement in Tama County were notified on July 5th that Logan Kurth was intoxicated, had a gun and was threatening to kill himself.

Police say Kurth told officers to shoot him, advanced toward Toledo Police Lieutenant Nathan Wunn and aimed a gun at him. He ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon and Wunn shot Kurth, who died of his injuries

An investigation found Kurth texted family members an hour before the shooting threatening to either kill cops or be killed by them. It was also revealed the weapon was actually an air pistol that look like a Glock handgun.

Investigators say Kurth had a history of mental health and substance abuse problems.
