New Madison County Auditor Elected

(Winterset, IA) -- A former clerk for the Madison County Board of Supervisors wins the race for county auditor. Unofficial results show Michelle Brant won 70 percent of the vote Tuesday.

Brant beat Matthew Schwartz, whose recent appointment was challenged by a group of citizens who circulated petitions to hold the the special election.

The contest follows months of controversy surrounding former auditor Michelle Kaczinski, whose hiring practices are under investigation. She resigned July 1.

Brant will serve out the remainder of Kaczinski's term through January of 2029.
