(Des Moines, IA) -- A teen is in custody, accused of leading Des Moines Police on a chase in a stolen car.

Police say officers tried to pull over a driver for running a red light around 3am Monday morning, when the driver sped away, leading officers on a chase. The chase ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole. The driver tried to run away from the crash but was quickly taken into custody. An investigation found the vehicle had been stolen from a home in the Beaverdale neighborhood shortly before the chase.

The suspect has been turned over to Polk County Juvenile Detention.
