(Des Moines, IA ) -- Picking up travelers from the Des Moines International Airport just got easier with a new system that directs drivers to park in numbered stalls in the new parking garage. Drivers are instructed to text the parking spot number to their passengers and have them meet in the garage.

Sarah Hoodjer of the Des Moines Airport says a combination of more air travelers and construction at the airport was causing traffic congestion. She says drivers who park in the new parking garage can do so for up to two hours free of charge.

"It does allow a place for them to just wait, carefree, for their passengers. They (air travelers) can take as long as they need to gather their bags to get off their flight to come meet you, " said Hoodjer.

She say you can still pick up passengers curbside, as long as you know they're already on the sidewalk with their bags.

Hoodjer adds drivers also have the option to sit in the cell phone parking lot located south of the terminal for 20 minutes to wait for their passengers to let them know when they're ready to be picked up.

She made her comments to Jeff Angelo on the WHO Morning Show.
