Construction Workers Save Family From Burning Home In Southwest Iowa

(Glenwood, IA) -- Three construction workers are credited with saving a family from a burning house in Glenwood, in Southwest Iowa Monday.

"They were driving by, saw the fire from the porch. Went in and were able to get the daughter out, the mother, the grandmother, and then I think a brother or nephew who was up on the second story." Said Glenwood Fire Chief Matt Gray.

He says there was too much fire for them to reach the boy on the second floor so they went outside and pulled a trampoline close enough to the house to help him out.

"So these three guys from Leick Construction are heroes. I mean they sacrificed themselves to get these people out. John Lewis, Gabe Record, and Darien Pond."

Chief Gray says all three men have injuries, two have burns, one was takent o the burn unit in Lincoln.

Firefighters had a hard time getting the attic portion of the fire out. Gray says the fire went straight up the walls but the ceiling was lathe [[ lath ]] and plaster and hard for the firefighters to punch through, and the attic was filled with Christmas trees and boxes of decorations.

Gray says the house is a total loss.
