The Omaha Mayor's Office announces an initiative to address homeless encampments on public property.
Mayor Ewing says the city will work with "Threshold Continuum of Care," an umbrella organization of outreach groups and advocates for the homeless to focus on those in the encampments to provide the services they need to get into shelters, or more permanent housing.
The plan would give a seven -to ten -day notice of action being taken against a camp.
The plan would be developed over 30 days and run as a pilot program in a 6 -month period to evaluate the program.
During that time, no encampment ordinances will be considered.
There is a city council public hearing Tuesday on a proposal to outlaw encampments on public property.
