UPDATE: Large Gas Leak in Grimes That Prompted Evacuations Repaired

(Grimes, IA) -- Residents in Grimes can safely return home after several homes were evacuated due to a large gas leak earlier today.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says a construction worker hit a gas line in Grimes, prompting the temporary evacuation of a number of homes in the area. Crews from the Johnston-Grimes Fire Department and the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.

The leak was reported fixed around 12:40 Friday afternoon, and the Polk County Sheriff's Office says it is safe for residents to return to their homes.
