Iowa State Senators Call for Audit of DMPS Books Following Roberts Scandal

(Des Moines, IA) -- Three state senators are calling for an audit of the finances of the Des Moines Public Schools District following the resignation of former superintendent Ian Roberts, who faces immigration and weapons charges.

In a letter to Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand, State Senators Jesse Green, Kerry Gruenhagen, and Lynn Evans are requesting an audit of the district’s financial records. The senators say Roberts’ alleged lies, deceit, and discrepancies in his background warrant a thorough investigation to ensure taxpayer money is being properly spent and allocated.

Roberts resigned as superintendent last month after ICE agents arrested him for overstaying his visa. He is currently being held in the Polk County Jail on federal gun charges.
