Investigation Underway into Fatal Accident That Shut Down SB Highway 65

(Des Moines, IA) -- One person is dead following a single-vehicle accident on Highway 65 near Bondurant this (Monday) morning.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says a man, the sole occupant of a pick-up truck, was extricated from the vehicle by witnesses at the scene.

The truck was in the ditch and was on fire when first responders arrived on the scene. The man was airlifted to the hospital, where he later died.

The accident closed down the southbound lanes on Highway 65 for a time this morning but both lanes have since been reopened to traffic.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the accident.
