(Iowa) -- A new national study shows Iowa is among the top five states where residents are at the highest risk of buying a "lemon home" - a house with hidden defects.
Moving services website MovingPlace ranked all 50 states on where homes are most likely to have prior defects. Iowa ranks number 5 on the list, with foundation and plumbing problems found to be the most common concerns. According to findings, 56% of Iowa homes have foundation problems, which is the highest percentage in the country. Plumbing problems affect 66% of Iowa homes, especially in the kitchen. The study finds Iowa's cold winters, heavy spring rainfall, and large number of older homes create the ideal conditions for property deterioration.
Rhode Island tops the list as the state where home buyers have the highest risk of buying a "lemon home." The full study is available on the MovingPlace website.
