(Des Moines, IA) -- A $2.7 million dollar plan to improve Second Avenue in downtown Des Moines is moving forward.
The Des Moines City Council approved the project on Monday, which will reconstruct Second Avenue from Court Avenue to Interstate 235. The plan introduces a number of changes to Second Avenue including narrowing the road from 4 lanes to 3, and reducing the speed limit from 35 miles an hour to 25.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2026.
