(Rock Island, IL) -- A Quad Cities teen convicted in the fatal shooting of another teen has escaped from prison.
The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice says Johnell Lamont Smith III escaped while taking part in an inmate program in Chicago Wednesday.
Smith was convicted of first-degree murder in April, and sentenced to 35 years in prison in June for killing 17 year-old Danny Taylor during a home invasion on Ridgewood Road in Milan two-and-a-half years ago.
