(Grimes, IA) -- Census workers will be knocking on doors in Grimes starting Thursday.

The Grimes Special Census has resumed now that the government shutdown has ended. Census workers will be going door-to-door to the homes of residents who didn't complete the census online. If a resident isn't home at the time a census worker arrives, the worker will leave a note with a number for the resident to contact and complete the census by phone. State and federal funds are based on population, and Grimes has seen significant growth since the last census in 2020. The city expects to have the results of the Special Census sometime next year.

All census workers are employees of the U.S. Census Bureau and will have a federal ID.
