CyRide Awarded $14.6 Million Federal Grant for Expansion, Clean Fuel

(Ames, IA) -- CyRide is receiving a multi-million dollar federal grant to expand its facilities and advance its clean fuel capacity.

The $14.6 million dollar grant grant from the Federal Transit Administration will allow CyRide to provide indoor storage for its entire bus fleet and upgrade its administrative and maintenance facilities. The funds will also go toward converting 20 buses to use 100% biodiesel fuel. Currently, only 5 CyRide buses operate on B100 biodiesel.

The city of Ames says CyRide's workforce has grown by 40% since 2008, to additional space is needed to for the organization's administrative staff. The project will also include the installation of an underground B100 biodiesel tank to use year-round.
