(Iowa) -- A former Iowa governor will receive the state's highest citizen award next month.
Current Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced Monday that Terry Branstad will receive the Iowa Award at the State Capitol on Tuesday, December 11th. Branstad is the longest-serving governor in both Iowa and U.S. history, serving as Iowa governor first from 1983 to 1999 and again from 2011 to 2017. President Trump appointed Branstad U.S. Ambassador to China in 2017, where he served until 2020.
Branstad is a native of Leland Iowa and a graduate of Forest City High School as well as Drake University and the University of Iowa.
