Iowa Sees Decrease in Holiday Vehicle Thefts

(Iowa) -- With the holiday season in full swing, Iowa is seeing a decrease in holiday vehicle thefts.

Insurance comparison website Compare the Market analyzed FBI data showing December vehicle thefts from 2021 to 2024. The analysis found the state of Iowa saw 357 vehicle thefts per 100 thousand in December of 2024, a 21 percent decrease from 2021's 451. The data also show a total of 2,217 December vehicle thefts in Iowa per 100 thousand over a 5 year period.

Florida tops the list as the U.S. state with the biggest increase in holiday vehicle thefts, with an increase of 659% from December 2021 to December 2024. Oregon saw the biggest decrease in holiday vehicle thefts, with a 60% decline during the same period.
