(Iowa) -- Bitter cold temperatures will move into Iowa overnight into Thursday, with lows below zero for most of the state.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Jim Lee says lows will be around ten to twenty below zero, which is likely to shatter daily records across the state.
"I wouldn't be surprised if there are temperatures that beat the daily records by five or ten degrees. This would be really cold at any time of winter but in the first week of December, this is very, very unusual," Lee said.
Lee says wind chill values will be as low as 20 below zero. However, temperatures will warm back up in the '30s on Friday.
There is a possibility of snow over the weekend. However, Lee says it will be nowhere near the amount that fell last weekend, which totaled a foot or more of snow in some places.
Lee made his comments to Jeff Angelo on the WHO Radio Morning News Show.
