(Iowa) -- Northern Iowa is under a winter storm watch, with wind gusts of up to 60 miles an hour expected Tuesday night, creating potential blizzard conditions.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Alexis Jimenez says travel could be impossible due to blowing snow and white out conditions tonight and during the Wednesday morning commute.

"Winds over 50 miles an hour remain possible throughout the state. That will be at the same time we have snow showers moving through," Jimenez said.

She says Central and Southern Iowa are under a wind advisory from midnight tonight until noon on Wednesday, with gusts of 55 miles an hour expected.

The high winds could result in downed tree limbs and power outages.
