(Des Moines, IA) -- A fire at Prestine Laundromat temporarily shut down a portion of University Avenue in Des Moines this morning.
“On arrival, first crews saw flames visible above the roof and immediately went into attack mode,” said Ahman Douglass with the Des Moines Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Douglass says it started outside the building. Crews quickly extinguished the flames and confirmed the property was not occupied.
“They extinguished that fire, did a complete search of the property, and it was not occupied,” Douglass said.
Des Moines Police closed University Avenue from 22nd Street to MLK Parkway for about an hour, redirecting drivers to Hickman Road or Interstate 235.
No injuries were reported.
