(Undated) - AT&T will start phasing out landline phone service in Illinois in the new year.

The company says they'll replace all landlines with digital phone service using their cellular network or a broadband internet connection by 2029.

Over half-a-million Illinois residents still have landline phones, while more than a quarter don't have access to high-speed internet.
