(Iowa) -- Iowans got a short reprieve earlier this week from snow and cold. However, high winds and falling temperatures may lead to slick roads today and tonight.

“The biggest thing to monitor today is, of course, the bursts of snow. Mixed with the wind, they can lead to sudden whiteout conditions at times if the snow is heavy enough. So if you’re in that situation, have a place you can pull off to be safe,” said Alexis Jimenez, National Weather Service Meteorologist.

The majority of Iowa is under a wind advisory, with gusts up to 50 miles an hour possible. Jimenez says motorists traveling on north-south roadways, such as Interstate 35, will be impacted the most.

She says wind chill values in the single digits, high winds, and isolated snow showers are expected this Thursday afternoon across the state.
