Updated at 3:30 p.m. 12/29:
The Iowa Department of Transportation says I-35 has now been reopened between Ames and Minnesota, after the road was closed on Sunday due to snow.
Officials urge motorists to continue to use extreme caution on partially snow covered roads with scattered snowpack.
Previous update from 7:00 a.m. 12/29:
Blizzard conditions continue in portions of northern Iowa. Winter weather caused the closure of Interstate 35 in both directions in Ames.
The closure extends north to the Minnesota border. Barriers along the freeway are directing traffic off the Interstate at certain exits. US 18 is also closed between Clear Lake and Portland in both directions.
Drivers are advised to seek shelter in the greater Des Moines area until the storm passes.
