(Linn County, IA) -- Authorities have identified an Alabama man accused of trying to rob a Marine recruiting center in Cedar Falls and later firing at officers on New Year’s Eve.
Investigators say 32-year-old Samuel Reese the third attempted the robbery before stealing an SUV. About an hour later, officers spotted the vehicle on Interstate 380 and began a chase.
During the pursuit, Reese is accused of firing a shotgun at officers before crashing. He then fled into a nearby field, where more gunfire was exchanged.
Reese was shot by an officer and is in critical condition. No officers were injured.
