Des Moines' John R. Grubb Community YMCA to Close Next Month

(Des Moines, IA) -- The John R. Grubb Community YMCA in Des Moines will close next month after more than 30 years.

The Grubb Y opened in 1994 in a building that once housed Dowling Catholic High School, located at 11th Street and College Avenue. On February 28th, the Grubb Y will turn the site back over to the city of Des Moines ahead of the opening of the new Reichardt Community Recreation Center this spring. YMCA members who had been attending the Grubb Y will be able to use their memberships at any of the three other YMCA locations in the Des Moines metro.

Those locations include:

• The Wellmark YMCA, located at 501 Grand Avenue in Des Moines
• The Walnut Creek Family YMCA, located at 948 73rd Street in West Des Moines
• The Waukee Family YMCA, located at 210 N Warrior Lane #100 in Waukee

Current employees at the Grubb Y will have the option to apply for positions at the other three Des Moines metro YMCA locations.
