(Des Moines, Iowa) -- An overnight fire caused significant damage at an auto salvage yard on Des Moines’ southeast side.
Fire crews were dispatched to Yaw’s Auto Salvage around 2 a.m. Firefighters initially had trouble accessing the scene because the yard’s gate was locked. Crews then had to tow a van that was blocking a fire hydrant before they could connect to a water supply.
Officials say 18 vehicles and a building were damaged in the fire.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
