(Iowa) -- A new study ranks Iowa near the top of the list of best states for drivers.

WalletHub analyzed data from all 50 states to determine which states have the best conditions for drivers. The study focused on four key metrics:

  • Cost of Ownership & Maintenance
  • Traffic & Infrastructure
  • Safety
  • Access to Vehicles & Maintenance

Iowa ranked as the second best state in the country for commuters overall, due in large part to its road quality, low traffic congestion, and low prices of car insurance and operating costs. Across the study's four key metrics, Iowa ranked 7th in cost of ownership and maintenance, 11th in traffic and infrastructure, 38th in safety, and 22nd in access to vehicles in maintenance.

Midwestern states ranked highly on this list, taking four of the top five rankings. Still however, the study ranked Vermont as the best state in the nation for drivers.
