(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines is the first city to receive faster internet speeds through Google Fiber. The company announced that customers currently subscribing to 1-gig service will be moved to 3-gig speeds, while those on 3-gig plans will be increased to 5 gigs.

According to Google Fiber, the upgrades are part of an effort to transition its highest-speed offerings to WiFi 7, the company’s most advanced wireless technology.

The enhanced speeds will come at no additional cost to customers, and Google Fiber says users will not need to take any action to receive the improved service.
