Security At WDM Schools As Police Search For Man Who Shot At Officers

(West Des Moines, IA) -- West Des Moines Police are boosting security at several schools today as they continue searching for a suspect who fired at officers on Vine Street last night.

Police say they were called for a report of an armed man. When officers arrived, the suspect shot at them. Officers returned fire, and the man ran away. He has not yet been found.

Uniformed officers will be posted at Hillside Elementary, Stillwell Junior High, Walnut Creek Alternative High School, and Sacred Heart Elementary, and patrols will be stepped up in the area.

No officers were injured.
