(Des Moines, IA) -- A Des Moines police sergeant is suing the city, saying she was exposed to high levels of lead while working at the police academy.

In January 2024 Sergeant Jennifer Grose was assigned to a rotation at the department’s academy. She says that during that time, she was exposed to lead contamination and, within months, began experiencing increased headaches, memory loss, joint pain, and elevated levels of lead in her blood.

The lawsuit claims the academy has a history of lead contamination and failed to properly address the danger for people working there.
