(Polk County, IA) -- Polk County reaches a settlement with its former Human Resources Director.

At its meeting Tuesday morning, the Polk County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the $2.5 million dollar settlement with Jim Nahas and his attorney. Nahas sued Polk County in after he was fired in 2020, claiming libel and wrongful termination. Of the $2.5 million dollars agreed to be paid in the settlement, $1 million will be covered by insurance, while the remaining $1.5 million will be funded by Polk County taxpayers through the county's general fund.

The settlement comes after Nahas was awarded $4.2 million dollars after winning a civil suit against Polk County in September.
