A Des Moines man is convicted on all charges after a home invasion in Ankeny last summer.
28-year-old Gemiere Cortez Goodwin is accused of entering the home of a 68-year-old victim, demanding money, attacking, then choking the victim unconscious. The Polk County Attorney's office say it happened on July 1, 2025, the day after the victim's wife died. The victim suffered head and facial injuries.
Several items were then stolen from the home, including a gun, cash, and credit cards, some which police say were found in Goodwin's possession.
Goodwin's mother, 46-year-old Merrelita Rae Kintz, was also accused of assisting her son in the crime, and she was sentenced to 35 years in prison in November.
Goodwin is scheduled to be sentenced on March 27. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison.
