(West Des Moines, IA) -- No candidate secured enough votes to win a vacant West Des Moines City Council seat in Tuesday’s special election.
According to the Polk County Elections Office, Democrat Fannette Elliott led the field with 41% of the vote. Democrat Katherine Harrington received about 31%, while Republican Shad Clayton earned the remaining votes.
Because no candidate received a majority, a runoff election is scheduled for March 17. The winner will fill the seat previously held by Renee Hardman, who resigned after being elected to the Iowa Senate last December.
