(Polk County, IA) -- Polk County residents will have a chance clear up non-violent outstanding warrants at a first-of-its-kind event next month.

Polk County is holding a free Warrant Resolution Clinic on Friday, April 3rd at Polk County River Place, located at 2309 Euclid Avenue in Des Moines from 9am-4pm. Polk County Attorney Kimberly Graham tells WHO Radio News the event is not for every kind of outstanding warrant:

"If their case number starts with an FE, F as in Frank, E as in elephant, that's a felony case, and this is not a clinic for those folks. This is just for low-level, non-violent warrants."

The Warrant Resolution Clinic is only for warrants issued by Polk County, not those issued by another county. Graham says free childcare will be available at the event, while those with children wait to meet with those who can help them resolve their outstanding warrant. The free clinic will include Polk County judges, prosecutors, and court staff who will be able to assist in resolving warrants, set up payment plans for outstanding debts, and reschedule court dates, if needed.

Polk County currently has more than 8,200 outstanding non-violent and non-felony warrants. The clinic aims to reduce that number, save the county money, and free up law enforcement officers who would otherwise be tasked with finding those with outstanding warrants.

The county recommends pre-registration for the the event. More information on the Warrant Resolution Clinic is available at the Polk County Attorney's Office website.
