(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The city of Cedar Rapids is approving a 750-thousand dollar contract to help restore the trees lost during the 2020 Derecho.

The city is signing a five-year contract with Monarch Research Project to create educational materials, programs and events about planting and caring for trees.

The initiative will supplement the city's Trees Forever ReLeaf program, which has planted more than 18,000 trees in city parks and public land, with another 24,000 still to come.
